Handicapped SEX Facilitators -- NO JOKE

I was watching a documentary last night about Sex Facilitators for the Handicapped.

It was the coolest thing, and it blew me away I never thought of it.

Basically, if you are a handicapped couple, it can be helpful to have a Facilitator "help" you have sex.

Depending on the nature and severity of your disability, the "facilitation" can run the gamut from just being present in the room, sorta like a spotter, to hefting the couple into bed then leaving the room, all the way to assisting with penetration and moving the couple against each other rhythmically.

I guess, depending on where the facilitator falls in the facilitation spectrum, they can be anything from a specially-trained nurse to a prostitute.

    FASCINATING SHIT, HUH!

I think I know what the newest FriendFinder site is going to be -- LOL.

Anyway, here's an article about it.

    And here's a Yahoo Group

Dude, me neither -- I just assumed they would stop trying to have sex, once it became so complicated you needed help.

But, now, I'm like DUH! -- if I had ANY excuse to get more [quasi-participating] people in the room while I was having sex, I soooo would.

God, can you imagine working as a Sex Facilitator for the Handicapped...

You'd show up at the door-step. Maybe you'd have like a file on them or something.

"Joe is 36 years old, he lost his legs in a meat-packing accident in 1998..."

"Katrina is a quadraplegic since birth, with minimal vocal abilities..."

                  Man..!

Then, you're like this hot, eye-glass-wearing semi-academic (politically hippie) grad student/hoe who shows up to help these people get it on!

FUH-HUCK -- That sounds like the birth of a new niche!

                      Hard to say...

Those are relative terms, you know.

In "Being John Malkovich", John Cusack played both roles -- his discovery of the portal to Malkovich's brain, arguably "facilitated" the otherwise impossible sex between his frumpy, submissive wife (Cameron Diaz) and his pushy, androgynous neo-fuck-target from the office (Catherine Keener).

But then, he also masterfully "puppeted" Malkovich himself in that memorable scene, where he made the actor dance and tumble and spin, while the enthralled Keener (not yet aware it was Cusack at the helm) watched from their bed what it looks like when a man collapses into (and acquires focus through) the act of post-coital display.

I think people will always pay more to have you make a puppet of them than they will to have you show them how to do something for themselves.

I'm a puppet, as you know, and it's worth every penny.

Damn. I don't know if I should laud you as a modern poet with keen insight into the human psyche, or call you a pud-pulling film school tool. Maybe something between.

I don't think there's anything terribly laudable in my observation.

People fuck and want to be fucked... Each person, corresponding in their moments, Now and Then, to the familiar roles called "You" or "I", at times desires to see themselves "puppet-like" in the control of another, or else, to see the other "puppet-like" in their control.

But, in all cases, what fires the Sex in us, is the detection of a Complement within our grasp -- someone willing to dance while we gesticulate the strings, or someone willing to play proxy to OUR will, while WE dance, and leap and twist ... without consequence, without risk.

Hmmm... perhaps its your prosaic style, but my interpretation is that you insist every sexual encounter involves some sort of power imbalance, where there must always be a dominant (puppetmaster) and submissive (puppet) role. I'll grant you that often power games can add a lot of spice to a sexual pallette, but I reject the notion that EVERY coupling involves such crass manipulations.

Don't get me wrong... I love bending my wife over and riding her halfway across the room sometimes, and I love her pouncing on me when she's feeling frisky, but I also love it when we meet together as equals in giving and receiving pleasure.

I think this is also the first time I've gotten to use the word 'pallette' on GFY, ever.

I think this is also the first time I've gotten to use the word 'pallette' on GFY, ever.

"Black & White", for all its polarized narrowness, puts people at ease and steers a situation down familiar roads.

Kudos to you and your wife for being evolved enough to trade back and forth in pursuit of gray. I think the very first thing people do on their way to liberating themselves is discard all the behaviors they don't HAVE to do. Life becomes a rich mosaic of yourself, suddenly, enacting different roles and discovering you are not quite so "That One Thing" as you thought, or had been told -- same thing.

Getting Sex out of Identity, when Sex is just something that happened to you at the mercy of other people, is a big achievement. It's exhilirating to give the old chalk board a cleansing wipe and realize the words you'd been reading for so long were so arbitrary.

There's a kind of power one feels when one considers a blank slate.

                                    "I could write anything!"

But, having stared at my own "empty" canvas (which bore the marks of erasure and scratching-out as undeniably and as suggestively as anything ever written there in the past) for a long, long while, I've decided that what you don't "write" you can't experience. Memory, the record of experience, is ill suited to shades of gray. To remember an equivocated value is to live forever between numbers, between Here and There. The value of history as resource for the present diminishes around those actions and events we chose (or were forced) to remember ambivalently. Some say that the Holocaust is exaggerated in the modern collective consciousness. Perhaps it is only that some people resist the blunting of an edge that figures so influentially in their lives.

                                    Now my point:

My wife is the most intelligent, most gifted, most terrifyingly ancient person I have ever met. She could build and raze empires of achievement. She could be anywhere with anyone. But she lives with me and does nothing but sleep and eat, creating for herself a "happiness" she can sustain. Whereas I get to go to work and play mogul everyday. We endure two different varieties of guilt.

The "imbalance of power" in our relationship, to use your term, is entirely superficial and simply UNREAL. The fact that I get up at 6AM and get dressed and take 2 trains to work everyday is simply my "lot" -- but only in THIS "play". Likewise, merely the fact that she COULD "DO ANYTHING" with her life, that she could play an assortment of very different parts in myriad plays (all the more so for being considerably younger than I am) is more present between us than the lines she speaks to me.

We heed character, she and I, in our respective ways, NOT because we cannot imagine other people we might be, but BECAUSE WE CAN and know WHY we choose not to.

My rule ONE* rule about tipping:

I tip when I'm expected to.

*(For me it is NEVER a question of HOW MUCH to tip, but, simply, whether I should tip at all -- because, when I do tip, it is ALWAYS VERY WELL.)

I'm not handicapped, but I'm really lazy. Do you think my health insurance would cover that?
