I recently started a sex (well mostly non nude) blog to test the waters. So far SE traffic has been surprisingly good. Does anyone use RSS on their adult blogs? Is there really any advantage to it as there would be on a "normal" mainstream blog? I'm not sure as I want people publishing my content on their site even if it does have some of my links in it.I like pie.Comment

Yeah I publish my full RSS and I havent really spammed alot of my affiliate links within it, then again Im only a month old but already 6k unique so I figure in another month after the traffic is built up take a good look at if the RSS feed is really doing me any good. You dont have to link your full RSS feed either by the way on my news page http://www.thesexblog.com/news alot of the feeds just link to thier sites particular blog entry. Show me link love by the way for the words of advice ;)Originally posted by Armed & HammeredDoes anyone use RSS on their adult blogs? Yes, we not only use RSS feeds, but RSS Equalizer - Does it work? Apparently so.
I did an entry about Fred Durst about 2 or 3 AM, and when I woke up I already had search engine hits for Fred Durst sex video, and some others, as well as a trackback from a blog I never heard of.
RSS is the only way that could have happened so quicklyComment
-
To address this issue, trackbacks are the ultimate recip link. SE's like activity in blogs, and when someone does a trackback to you that just gives you more activity. As Martha Stewart would say, "and that's a good thing."Originally posted by Armed & HammeredI'm not sure as I want people publishing my content on their site even if it does have some of my links in it.Comment

Thanks for posting all these blog references. I can use 'em.
I create my own feeds for about 50 adult video and webmaster news sites, and now I can pull in some new headlines - if they're updated often enough.
If anyone has a news or webmaster blog I'm missing, let me know here and I'll check it out for inclusion in my news aggregator.

yea I picked up the domain fuckors.com and was thinking of turning it into a hybrid type blog. Seems to be the big hype right now. Can't be too bad when you concider their traffic is all hard link trades and SE..In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

Tala, if I like a blog and think my surfers will like it, I link it. End of story, no further action required. It's also a lot more likely to happen if I find my link on the site the first time I go look at it.Originally posted by TalaForkbeard, how does One go about getting linked to Your site? www.dominablog.com might well fit in over there.
However, I almost never link to female-dominant non-spanking stuff, because my surfers aren't looking for it.
However, in your case, there are three other short-term reasons why a free link is unlikely.
The first is design. You're not really set up like a blog, because all your articles are hidden behind invisible links. I thought you were writing one-line blog posts, until I noticed the post titles are a subtly different color than the rest of the text. (I have limited color vision, like 10% of american males; so perhaps the link color is more noticeable to you.) Links (especially important links) really should conform to web standards by displaying with underlining (the ways yours do on mouseover). Standard blog convention, however, is to show the whole article unless it's really long -- and then, you should some obvious text like "(more)" to indicate that there exists an undisplayed portion of the article. Right now, I don't really know what your content is like, because it takes too much clicking to see it. I could skim it in moments, if your text was visible. But there's nothing in the headlines to make me want to click into the articles via the invisible links.
Second is newness. I almost never link to new blogs. I look for a couple of months of steady updates. The reason? I'm lazy. 95% of all blogs don't last beyond the first thirty posts. It's a pain in the ass to prune dead links and stale blogs from my blogroll, so it's much easier to wait until a blogger demonstrates that they are in it for the long haul. (Also, new blogs almost never have traffic or pagerank, which makes linking very one sided.)
Third is lack of participation in the blogging community. You don't have any blogroll to speak of. And as near as I can tell from your post titles and one-line posts, you don't quote any other bloggers or respond to anything else that's going on in the BDSM blogging community. You want traffic, but you aren't sending any out. As an adult webmaster, I understand. But as a blogger, it makes me think "why in the hell should I send her traffic, when she's so stingy with hers?"
All of the above goes to the factors I think about when deciding whether or not to make a free link to a blog. I have been known to sell links, and for that, my standards are much lower. Just send me an email, and we'll talk.
Please don't take any of this the wrong way. I know it might sound a little harsh, but I'm trying to be clear and honest about my reactions and the way I make linking decisions.Offering sponsored blog posts and custom writing services.Comment

Actually, I'm not thinking of it as sounding harsh. I didn't even think that at all. I'm reading it learning as I go. Tala, you're welcome!
I keep expecting somebody to come on here and jump all over me for "giving away information" (the way they do Taboo in the domain threads). My thinking, though, is that I would benefit from more adult blogs of a quality to be worth trading with.
It's also the case that it takes years of daily effort to put together a really good adult blog. I don't expect to ever see mass competition, because there aren't *that* many adult webmasters who are both sufficiently diligent and sufficiently text-oriented. So I feel pretty safe giving advice that I know will be followed only by a tiny minority.

Forkbeard - I just finished reading your blogging tips from the link you posted back on the first page.
There are some great tips there and it made Marie and I go back and look at the blogs we link to with a different perspective.
We also found a few respected and upstanding webmasters that we still link to but who had stopped linking to us
While that's ok from your perspective the arrangement with the links that we carry was that everyone in that group would link to everyone else so it's interesting to go back and see who you can trust and who you can't.
It's also interesting to see why we get so many hits from a few of the blogs in our list - it seems surfers don't want to hang around those blogs that are full of advertising.Left intentionally blank ... just like my brainComment

What's up with RSS equalizer, I have been using Zfeeder, which is quite good. It renders the feeds on plain HTML pages and has a pretty neat PHP based admin panel. You have to get into the code a bit to customize the templates but it's fast and FREE.Comment

i use wordpress and moveable type, depending on which blog i'm working on - wordpress is great freeware, but it's also sort of like using linux when everyone else is using windows. not as much support out there for it, but tons of people are making things for WP etc. and it makes you feel elite (ok not really, but it's certainly not totally user friendly, you gotta have a little clue when you implement it.)Originally posted by baddogone word Wordpress
