Good online music services

Having just paid for an obscure track that I need for a funeral of a close family member to find that not only do I need a very obscure codec to run it, but the track will not run on other hardware including my stereo due to stupid license restrictions, I'm looking for a good music download software.

The only requirements are that they have a large librabry, use a standard format such as MP3 and you can burn the tracks to a CD for use anywhere.

Any suggestions? At a push I could search file sharing servers but the hassle, crap results and often poor quality means I'd far prefer to pay the buck or so and get a legit copy.

The really stupid thing is that the service I tried charge the same to download an album as it costs to buy one. Not only would I have a physical product but I'd have few if any limitations on use if I bought one so why introduce this license and codec crap in the first place?

All suggestions for good downloadable, legal, music sources are welcome.
