Hell, in past jobs I've worked 60 hours regularly for a salary of less than $500 gross per week. And that was management! Ok, I think I understand this all.
1. She made $130K LAST year.
2. She didn't get her contract renewed THIS year cause she only does softcore.
3. The $2K a month is a severance package so that she doesn't work for someone else for a year.
So basically her only option is either be happy with $2K a month or leave Steve to hopefully make more.
Can't really blame her for wanting to make more than $2K a month after she had a taste of the $130K year.
I think you're doing the right thing steve to let her go. You've got plenty of content saved up so her leaving shouldn't phase you.
If she's trying to finish up school she should be happy that allthough she's not making $130K, she's still got a FREE $24K for a year and can focus just on school.

About the severance, is that $2k to let her go on good terms, or is it to prevent her from working for anyone else? If it's truely severance she should be damn happy. If it means she can't work, then yeah, it's going to be hard to live off $24k.
I would spend the money looking for her replacement. Let her go work for someone else... she'll be nothing without Lightspeed and your trademark.
