Thank goodness our PM stood up to Bush ... This missile defence is nothing more than a make-work project from a government who lives by the philosophy "if we don't use the military once in awhile, people will question it's existence."

I'm curious exactly how are N.Korea and Iran(!) warships going to get "near" the US coast? Without satellites, radar, etc. etc. detecting them and a fairly kick-ass US naval fleet blowing them out of the water?

There is the issue that building a missile defence system promotes a new arms race. With Canada being one of the leaders in promoting nuclear disarmament, a missile defence system would set back decades of work.

Good, Canada should say no to it.

Basically the missle defence system means if there's a missile on the way to the states, they can shoot it down over canada and let it explode up here showering us with the debris and/or radioactive material.

Fuck that... The US made it's enemies, it can deal with them without dragging other countries into the mess. We don't need missiles flying over Canada, "defence" missiles or not

Yes, there are a lot of terrorists out there that would love to kill Americans on their own soil but the notion that they, or N.Korea, or Iran, or anyone else is going to load up ships with missiles and sail to California is a paranoid delusion.

Mark these words: NOBODY is going to fire ballistic missiles at the US from ships - or from anywhere else - defence system or not.

Incorrect. Canada would be expected to pony up substantial amounts of cash into this boondoggle. One of the main reasons why people 'in the know' don't want any part of this chikanery is that it is at its essence a way for bechtel et al to syphon several billion dollars out of our government directly into their coffers, combined with the general disdain for any plan calling for the weaponization of space.

Yes, it's impractical to remove ourselves entirely from the situation, but we sure as fuck don't have to throw our sweat and ducats to the bottomless pork barrel to chase a rediculous dream that amounts to little more than a payoff and a sense of comfort. Bechtel, Halliburton, and the rest of the blood profiteers can all run off and play hide-and-go-fuck-yourself.
