"South Beach Diet
Premise: The South Beach Diet is structured around a balanced eating plan of 'good' carbohydrates (whole grains, fruits and vegetables) and 'good' fats (unsaturated).
What you eat: The South Beach Diet recommends eating foods that the body takes more time to absorb and elimination of highly processed foods, saturated fats and sugar, which are processed quickly by the body and cause a spike in blood sugar, and more hunger cravings.
Comments / concerns:
* Faulty science and inconsistencies abound (Tufts University HealthLetter)
* Low-carb diets work for some people and not others. There's no evidence that their short-term effects produce long-term weight loss, while the added expense could lighten your wallet. Equally important, we know little about the long-term health effects of high-protein, high-fat, low-carb diets. (Harvard Health)
* No long-term risks based on current research. (Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer, NASA)
