" The noise came on again, loud and physical, remorseless in its second onslaught. It wasn?t distorted human speech this time, but something else. It was high and shrill and full of horror, animal. She turned slightly, to look past Willie?s shoulder at the flashing television. On the screen, she saw an image that burned like acid. It was all steeped in chaos, and leapt forth from the television screen in a bloody red gout that made for the eyes. She tried to look away from it, but the noise ? like shrieks from hell ? and the garish, pixelated flail of colors assailed her vision, held her to it. Dear God, what am I seeing. Mad, frenzied dogs, no hyenas, were encircling some sort of deer, and now the end had come, the animals were digging their yellowed fangs into the tender abdominal flesh ? how easily the entrails are torn out and consumed. Madly the animals feasted, the snouts glistening crimson, while life still twitched in the legs of their prey. All the while, the insane whooping continued as they tugged the poor animal apart. Oh God, the noise! And somewhere, far away and hidden in the night, a movie camera throbbed in the center of its low, mechanical din, almost as insanely as the communal heartbeat of the kill... more
