Check out some of the popular indian sites like http://in.yahoo.com/ and India's largest media company, http://in.indiatimes.com/, all in english. Without marketing and branding, generic names still rule.Comment

I see your point - But I think judging by the way the domains have been taken up, there has to be something in the .in extention. I know I was, and looks to me like many others were waiting for this extention to become live - The next big one is most probably the eu extention - And I am fairly certain most names there have been pre-ordered five times over - (They have a five tier waiting list)Originally posted by polish_aristocratnope, i haven't, you are right
I didn't know that
but i STILL think many people who have no clue about doamins and registred some .in names in order to make easy cash will be disappointed
I am not speaking about DomBuyer, he probably knows what he does and he has lots of money to risk anyway.
As for typeins - Sure there will be some gain on that - But I think both the reseller and the brandable domains were probably upermost in the purchasing webmasterrs minds - I know the load I bought were for these two reasons, mainly -Last edited by HarlotCash Dyker; 02-19-2005, 01:17 PM.Comment

.in domain registrations cross 50,000
Moumita Bakshi
New Delhi , Feb. 18
THE `.in' country code domain name registrations have crossed the 50,000 mark within the first two days of opening of real-time registrations for the general public.
"By today afternoon, over 50,000 domain names had been registered in the general public category. The performance reports coming from our technical partners suggest that `.in' domain name registration process is faster than `.com' and `.net' registration process worldwide," Mr Amitabh Singhal, Acting CEO, National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), said.
Of these, Net4India registered close to 19,000 domain names.
The registrations for the recently-launched `.in' country code Internet domain name had opened for the general public on February 16, and had attracted nearly 24,000 domain name registrations within the first hour.
The `.in' domain name registry had received over 4,000 applications from registered Indian trademark holders during the sunrise period from January 1-21, including applications from among the top 100 brands in India and worldwide.Trump haters gonna hate. that's all they can doComment

I just bought a couple real estate and technology domains. I'm interested to see if they get any type-in traffic already. I figure if somebody wants to buy 1 of them from me in 5 years then they have paid for themselves.
You know, its funny... I build tons and tons of websites. Some hit and generate hundreds/thousands of dollars, while the majority of them barely break even or don't even pay for themselves. The ones that hit? They make all the flounders worthwhile.
Its a numbers game. Most businesses are. You have to be willing to play the numbers in order to ever find a hit.Vacares - Web Hosting, Domains, O365, Security & More - Paxum and BTC Accepted

.in's wont be worth anything for a while.. it's a speculative investment
what is interesting is that DirectI managed to scoop a lot of them on behalf of 'pre-registered' customers, some of which they claim there were 80-100 applications for.. they were planning to auction them off but the .IN registry issued a notice proclaiming registrars are unable to auction names off for more than they would otherwise charge their customers. It will be interesting to see how DirectI award domains with multiple applications (such as casino.in etc)Last edited by rebel23; 02-19-2005, 05:30 PM.ICQ: 37378183Comment

I pre-regged some good names with DirectI such as travel.in, visit.in, business.in (and a bunch of others) that they were able to secure. Now that they found out that they can not auction them, they are scrambling to come up with a solution.
I talked to them on the phone, and their customer support told me they would resolve ownership and notify all registrants by 2-25-05.
Now it's a waiting game. My gut instinct tells me that this won't be a fair lottery and I'll walk away with only a refund on my premium pre-regs. Time will tell.

I checked a few names in question for my pre-regs... looks like Travel.in is a reserved name for the country. I should have known better.
One other name (business.in) looks like it was already given to an individual. But the remainder are in a "Temporary Holding Account" for DirectI. Hrmmm... should have gotten refunds by now on the reserved + taken names.
DirectI is horrible.
Horrible.

There are a lot of one word, good mainstream names that are valuable. It wouldn't hurt to invest $17/year on a good domain in order to secure it for the future and sell it to someone who can use it.Originally posted by Kard63This guy knows whats up. they also fucked up live registrations.. did you see their huge email explaining it?
I think they should just award those domains to the people who first pre-regged them..ICQ: 37378183Comment
