For amateur purposes.
Do you run Xp on your computer and do you have a firewire connection?
If so, just get yourself windows movie maker an it should automatically recognize the camera once it's plugged in.
For professional, use premierComment

Best would be Premier 1.5 as 6 crashes a lot.For professional, use premier
Pick up a firewire card from your local tech store. They are all of $20 or so bucks. You will be in luck if you run on XP, but if you are on another system (like I was) then you might have to track down drivers.they dont make aconverter ?

And make sure you have a ton of RAM, and storage space because if you are editing your own website's videos, you will need to make sure and back up to originals (before conversions) just so you are not tracking down tapes, and so forth later if you mess up or go to convert to something else.
