I don't have a problem if they have to sift massive amounts of data to find numbers connected to current known terrorist phone lines.
What I do have a problem with is if the data that is meaningless afterwards is kept by the government. As long as they destroy the records they don't need, then fine, do what you have to do.
This isn't the first time this stuff has been happening. Phone companies have a long history of surreptitiously working with spy agencies.
