btw I never understand when someone says "$1k extra"

how can it be extra? unless you find it on the street, or get it from your parents when you are a kid, then how can be it an "extra" ?

or do you mean that you barely make a living and after 6 months you were able to put $1k on the side and now you want to invest it?
