    Shame Shame On The Nhl Hockey Season And Players!

    Dont they get paid enough, they seem to give about the fans, sucks!

    Final horn sounds on the season that never was
    New York, NY (Sports Network) - National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman brought things to a head Wednesday, officially canceling the 2004-05 season at a press conference in New York.

    The NHL became the first major North American sports league to lose an entire season due to a labor dispute. The Stanley Cup will not be awarded for only the second time since 1893, as it wasn't given out in 1919 due to a flu epidemic.

                  ECHL players make about $22k a year, not sure what AHL pays but I'm sure its not a whole lot either. Why should NHL guys make so much?

                  I love hockey but I dont like whats going on. Cut the players pay to a level where the sport can survive and everyone makes money. If they dont like it, tell them go play somewhere else if they think they can make more. They wont have anywhere to go. They can either play for reduced pay or not play, then some AHL and ECHL guys can move up.

                  The players need to realize that this isnt football or basketball and they simply cant demand multimillion dollar paychecks when the sport doesnt make enough to pay those kind of salaries.

                  If I was given the choice to play in the NHL and make $750k a year or move down for less than $100k a year, fuck I'd stay with the NHL even if that $750k was quite a bit less than what I was making before. I'd adjust my lifestyle and be happy to be playing a sport I love and still make a decent living with it. Something is better than nothing.

                                          What happened to playing a sport that you loved to play? Some of our greatest players of the past if you asked them would have played for free. Baseball lost me way way back, greedy over paid players make me sick!

                                              When they blow their millions they'll wish they had agreed to play this season for reduced pay just to have more money coming in. It's not like they're getting paid minimum wage, they're still getting paid big money to play a GAME.

                                              What ever happened to playing for the love of the game? The love of the game with nice money on top of it should be more than enough to keep players happy. Or so I would have thought.

                                                                  I agree and I wish the other 3 major sports would get a reality check as well. It just fucks the fans in the end. Idiots... fucking the customer is not a good business practice. The players want more so the owner gives it to them, well he doesn't want to cut into his profit so the cost get passed down to increase in ticket prices. I know it's not the american way, but i would love to see there be a cap on the salaries of individual players, with a lot of the money being paid in bonuses based on performace. I don't understand locking someone in for 7+ years for 100+ million. What's their incentive to perform, they have already been paid...

                                                                  It's asshame there isn't more players who play because of their love for the sport and be happy to make an average couple mill a year.. You see a litle bit of that on the Pat's team, but that is few and far between. Most sports players are greedy self absurbed huge ego assholes once they start making millions.
