dude...ill give you a scenario i create to swing nerdy chicks
im from canada..so when at a party if i see a hot nerdy type girl i want to move on..i will strike up a convo with her and her friends...i steer it to americans VS canadians

i steer the convo to things like they dont know jack about us...and give examples, then i say this " Man they nothing about us or themselves..i bet we could name more of their states then they could" Pretty soon the group of people, girl included will try to name all the american states"..i give them a second to stumble through then i say, "how about alphabetically?" i have them memorized alphabetically so w rhyme them off
This scenario has worked for me 100% of the time i have managed to steer the convo to where i need it.
this can work on us as well..memorize the provinces or the capital cities or whatever

for me it depends on the setting totally... suppose im shopping and the sales girl is cute...first off, i have a good excuse to talk to her, so i will start cracking jokes. second, shes not EXPECTING to get hit on, so its very laid back, no one feels nervous or defensive. if the coversation goes well, ill ask to take her out. works very well.
