A new use for bittorrent protocol

A new era for bittorrent is about to come. Loads of new trackers supporting only legal torrents are set up all the time. Also some distribution companies have noticed the bonuses of bittorrent datatransfer protocol.
What do you think about the legal use of bittorrents? Is it just plain stupidity or a great archievement of people innovation?

    Some legal torrent sites:

datagalaxy.net - The biggest legal torrent site
legaltorrents.com - One of the oldest legal torrent sites.

          This was a dumb thread.

I'm usually interested in the p2p / file sharing threads, but this one actually made me sorry I clicked on it.

Bittorrent is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Any professional site offering downloads can afford to put enough bandwidth in place. Bittorrent only facilitates teenagers setting up movie download sites

This is not true at all. The increase in bandwidth needed by a lot of sites and services required P2P to become mainstream. Look at AOL and their new media delivery plans for one example. There's plenty of companies using P2P as a core part of their delivery mechanism. The BBC, Radio Free Virgin and many others.

The further the bittorrent protocol gets developed the more uses we will see. I have a feeling it's going to play a key role in IPTV over the next few years. The bandwidth requirement to make IPTV ubiquitous is sickening so you better believe that some great minds are at work figuring out how to make that work.

Check out Kontiki for more info on legally using P2P to your advantage.

bit torrent can be useful, just seed a torrent with your paysites sample like a 20 meg vid or something of the sort, make sure its watermarked. and you can do a test from the traffic, see how well it does.

Oh, if you want an easier to touch example of how p2p applications can be useful you can see an example below.

The thing is, bittorrent uses the viewer's bandwidth to distribute, therefore the content that is distributed can only be free. If you are a content producer you might not want to be locked in a "free delivery" model
