I just had my caller ID spoofed,

    by a collection agency.

    lolll

They used my best friends number - well, his old, oldddd number, when he used to live at his parents house. They must have got it from an application I filled out somewhere where I used him as a reference, like, 10 yrs ago. And its a stupid debt i have been disputing with the credit bureaus for awhile now.

So i picked it up thinking it was my friend, visiting his parents. I get this guy that immediately starts talking about my account. Im like wtf??

I called the guy out on it... i said 'oh so you people spoof caller ids now, huh?' He said he didnt know what i was talking about. I said call me back in 2 seconds... and of course, his real # shows up. I didnt pick up, I called my friend up to check where he is - and it sure wasnt his parents house.

This has got to be illegal. Im sure the fine for it will exceed what they think I owe them, lol.

i filed a complaint with the fcc.

    Probably wont go anywhere tho..

SIG TOO SMALL! Maximum 1200x600 button and no more than 30 text lines of ALL SIZES and COLORS. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 6240x4800 instead of a 1024x800.

It's not illegal if they were using VOIP. Anyone can get a linux VPS or Dedicated box, put on an open source program called 'asterisk', connect to a VOIP carrier, and BAM, make any number you want show up.

A friend and I have this set up, it makes for a great time after a few blunts

Actually, it's illegal. You can't spoof numbers.

Just like telemarketing/collection agencies now must show a name, or number, or something on the caller ID. It's covered in the telemarketing laws that cover the "do not call list".

You CAN do it with VoIP surely. But if you do it on a mass scale, then it's illegal. While reporting them to the FCC, do not forget your local TRW, or whatever the other collection agencies are. They take that shit seriously, and will go after them themselves.

I am not sure where you live, but there are three major collection, or credit bureaus. The name's escape me. But if you report that shit to the credit bureau (they are all over in medium to large cities, check phone book) they will go after the company using shady practices.

If you check the phone book under credit bureau, they should be able to direct you correctly, or take care if for you. Same for those motherfuckers you pay, and do not want to remove, or adjust it from your credit report. Give it to the credit bureau, and they will whoop some arse, and send you a nice letter telling you the play by play of what they did, who they talked to, and everything.

If you arent going to sue them, move on. Complaint letters to the FCC are a huge waste of time. Been there, done that with the junkfaxers. They do stop sending faxes when they get a summons, though.
