Mpeg or WMV ? Do surfers care ???

I spend a while each day converting wmv clips to mpeg's for my movie galleries.

I don't really see a change in sales or shit, so does it really make a difference to the surfer ??

Am i wasting my time changing them to mpeg ???

Most of our videos in AdultLounge.com sites are in WMV also most of our clients through WorldWideContent.com who are many of the top affiliate programs request them in WMV....

oh...And for the record.....I offer various video formats to my members but the .wmv's are by far the more popular.....Same for my content clients just as Raffi reported.

Well, assume for a moment that these affiliate program owners (Who are webmasters) have done THEIR research, and have requested the format because that's what they find that THEIR surfers like to see?

Or, you could assume that every post out of everyone's mouth is spam and therefore a disservice to the thread topic and therefore should be removed.

That or wmv is easier to work with.

Ive always used what ever the sponsor provided be it wmv or mpeg and there has never been a difference.

I personally like opening MPG files over WMV because it opens the movie right in my browser, but thats just personal preference and I'm kind of weird anyway.

Yeah, personally i hate wmv's. That's why i thought that if i don't like them, it's best to change them over to something more user friendly...

well this is a valid question, and i do keep a close eye on my stats.

just one year ago for me, mpg and wmv got almost equal access.

don't know why, but now it's 75-25 in favor of wmv.

and i will say this,

for a given compression level and file size the wmv file just looks better on the screen.

Not sure why a surfer would care except that the file sizes are smaller with WMV, thus quicker to d/l

wmv loads faster if you know how to enocde the quality is good. Mpegs take forever to download and 60 percent of surfers are still on dialup .

yea they do, most perfer MPEG...I know I do! :p

SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

We offer our videos in 3 formats to members -
740kbps 480x360 WMV9
740kbps 320x240 MPEG1
250kpbs 240x180 WMV8

For non member surfers we only release a WMV8 version of our 740kbps 480x360 encode. We've never had complaints on the format ever. I think normal surfers don't really care about format. It's the geeks and gates haters who are always dissing WMV.
