Ok, I've been sitting back reading all this talk of metrosexuals this and that.
I've come across something that should be interesting to both parties.

I'm currently taking a medical terminology class

metro means "in between"

so to call yourself a metrosexual is to say that you are in between the male sex and the female sex

Please be careful the label you give yourself...

I understand in part how Bdjuf feels, everyman should want to keep a clean cut look. Clean looking women are attracted to clean looking men. This is a fact, but be careful about calling yourself a metro, because your practically calling yourself a bi-sexual maybe even a complete homo.

ya the whole metro thing just stinks of insecurity. pride in ones appearance is hardly something new, but you dont see james bond calling himself a metro. its the giving it a name that makes it so gay err... lame. christ if you are so well dressed you shouldnt need to announce it to the world, it should be immediately apparent.

this is the first and hopefully last time i feel inclined to weigh in on the subject..

Agreed. It's really funny to see so many people get riled up over a "name"!

Oh..and METRO also means LARGE LIVING AREA as in METROPOLITAN, or the greater "Metro Area of Los Angeles" from whence the whole "movement" began..city dudes who decided to start improving their looks!

metrosexual is a term given to men who are secure in themselves and take pride in looking good. hey as long as the chicks keep jumping on me because of it, i'm down. fuck the haters.

To me metro means metropolitan. This implies you are living in a large city and have access to everything. Living in a city is an interesting psychological thing. If you live there you are trusting other people to provide for you since you can not grow or hunt your own food and you are trusting society or employers to take care of you by providing you with the means to care for yourself.

This situation leaves a lot of free time on peoples hands. A basic fact of life is that people try to show their status in life off. During the 1500s men and women applied large amounts of whiote powder to themselfes to make it obvious that they did not have to go outside to work and thus did not have a tan. More recently we have people bragging about their 'bling bling' and trying to show it off with huge gold chains, fancy cars etc.

For me, and the people I know, being metro-sexual has nothing to do with sexuality. It simply means that we care about our look and skin and will do a little further than most men, but not as far as women, to look good. I am proud to be secure enough in myself to buy a toner and moisturizer and feel sorry for you who do not. There is nothing wrong with trying to look your best.

Good looking people tend to get the best jobs, better pay and many girlfriends. I am happy to hedge my bets and try to look as good as I can.
