Do what makes you happy. You're the only person that can make the choice. My guess is that your father will, given time, come to accept the situation, especially if you love the girl. My son does things that I don't always agree with, but when he gets older, he's going to have to make his own mistakes or find his own happiness, especially in love. I can only hope I like the girls he brings home (especially if it's serious) but unless the girl is some kind of dope addict or other really serious loser, I'd keep my mouth shut and stay close to my son, whether I liked her or not.

I'm Italian and for the most part the Sicilian heritage has been most apparent with the 'family-oriented' laws and what not. When I was a kid, I'd hear my dad laugh at them (the Sicilian side - he was from Central Italy and way more worldly) at the sound of racism. He'd remind them that their 'people' were made up of Arabs, Greeks and Africans - judging any other race would be like judging their forefathers.
If two people want to be together, whatever their color or religion, if they love eachother, they will respect and honor the other's beliefs and 'family traditions'. I doubt people marry blindly these days - simply because when you marry someone you are, to a certain extent, marrying their family.
I know of someone who listened to his 'mother' who didn't want him to marry a French-Canadian girl (caucasian) and he didn't, he married into the 'culture' she wanted and within 2 years, he was having an affair with the French-Canadian again and he ended up leaving the wife to get with his girlfriend.
Forbidden fruit seems much sweeter. If you don't forbid it and let nature take its course, you realize that the outcome may not be what you were fearing and making such a big stink for in the first place. If things work out the way you 'didn't want it to work out' - well, then be a bigger person and respect the person as the one your loved one loves.
