Im a smaller site, but I have done it both ways. Last tour had free clips, the new one does not, and sales increased with new tour. Now, the increase could be because the designs better. Yes I've used them. Yes they help sales. Especially if you do something differently that the competition in your niche. However, they are always being hotlinked, and freeloaders love them. Some coming back a few times a week to watch or just keep posting them all over the fucking place.
Nothing like seeing your bandwidth go to the moon on some freeloader, never buy, type board.
This happened to me a few weeks back. Some of the links did not work when I moved a page because of hotlinking. So I get an e-mail complaint from some shithead. I go in and fix them within and hour and over the course of the next week the same asshat posted the links on countless boards, forums, and blogs.
So I changed the links again, and blocked the sites. You have to love those shithead freeloaders.

the extra bandwidth is worth it. watermark your videos. they'll get saved, passed around, put on forums, p2p, etc. viral marketing.

I think the more brodband spreads and the faster connections will get the market will more and more move to audiovisual content. therefore you will have to provide also more and more video previews.
Bandwith and Freeloaders and shit can be a problem tough. Change the links on a regular base.
