    Webmasters,

    So what's the frame of time that a webmaster will get credited for the sale when a person who follows the link to one of the sites of your affiliate program, and doesn't immediately subscribe, but does at a later time. Usually what happens, is that a cookie is placed on that person's computer that tracks the time when that person first viewed the site and then finally subscribes to it. Some affiliate programs say this time of frame is one day or sometimes even less than an hour, while others claim it is forever.

    Not all sponsors mention that in their sites, maybe it's something webmasters don't think about...

    What is this length of time that you set for your cookies in your sponsorprogram ?

              I checked out some NATS programs, they were all set to 10 days.

              But on some of them it didn't matter if there was a cookie or not. When I returned to their first page, their own tracking code was hard coded on the ENTER link

                                                  Some sponsors are using session IDs ... which, I believe, are destroyed if the browser window is closed. In some ways better than cookies (you can't disable on your local machine, for one), but obviously in this particular way, not.

                                                      That is how NATS is set-up to track type in's..

                                                      If you are sent to a site with an affiliate code, it sets a cookie for that domain, so if you go back 5 minutes later, by typing in the domain, the old cookie is STILL in place, and NOT over written by the hard code on the spalsh / warning page...

                                                          Went to the site with my link code -> Cookie has my ID in it.
                                                          Went to the root and clicked ENTER -> Cookie was changed to their ID.

                                                                              start a thread asking where to send some traffic and you get spammed a mile deep by sponsors.
                                                                              Ask a simple question of them and its all too much effort for them to say or to find out if they didn't know.

                                                                                  In CCbills admin when setting the cookie length there is this information :

                                                                                  When the expiration value is greater than 3, no extra data will be logged to CCBill's database, so the cookie will be the only means of tracking a referred sale. If the surfer does not accept the cookie, the system will not be able to track them. Using the Text Box, enter the cookie expiration in days.

                                                                                  The way i read this when i set the cookie length, this would mean that my affiliates could actualy be getting worse tracking if i set the cookies for 90 days so i was thinking about what would be best, to have full tracking the first time the surfer is send to my site or to keep a cookie for someone that might come back 2-3 moths later.. Imo. the first one is by far the most important..

                                                                                  Will be more then happy to set the cookies for 90 days if anyone can convince me that this would be the best setting for my affiliates ?

                                                                                      that what you have posted doesnt mean that when you set cookies for a longer period of time, it tracks the first 3 days differently or worse...

                                                                                                      could it be your traffic... we just switched to nats and the tracking works great.... you have to think buying an online porn membership is "an impulse" buy kinda like why they put milk in the back of the store... if they came from you and were going to buy they will do so.. if not chances are there not going to buy unless they are linked there again.... now on the the nats issue...

                                                                                                      we just switched over to nats from ccbill only and now sales are much better than before,.... affiliates are happy... so it could be your traffic.. were you sending to a hardcore site from a NN gallery? that could be one reason... but you will get the sales

But I think(hope), ccbill would told me, that its worse for tracking, when I asked them to change it. Its still cookie tracking, no matter for how long time. Can mean only a little bigger size of the cookie file, not sure.
