    Value of MySpace domains?

Domain buyers, how do you feel about domains that contain the term "Myspace"? I understand that some C&D's have been received by people who own "Myspace" domains, but lately they seem to have given the green light to sites that enhance myspace rather than just trying to capitolize off of it (or so I understand from my online research) ... so seems the market is still alive.

My partner and I own a lot of them along the lines of "MySpaceGirls.com" (Not that particular one, just using an example of the generic quality of the ones we have) and wondering if people are at all interested.

Thanks ahead of time for your input

Depends if they get traffic. With TM sensitive domains there is definitely a risk and as such a significant impact on the domain's value.

I read an article just recently that News Corp (Rupert Murdoch and company... now the owners of Myspace...) have been very aggressively going after anyone with "MySpace" as part of their domain name, even free sites with no revenue model such as myspacesupport.com... so I would very seriously consider before making any investment into a domain name that is likely, just at the point of making any $, to be the subject of either a trademark infringement lawsuit or an ICANN UDRP action.

                  Negative value.

                  They are liabilities.

Under the ACPA you can be penalized up to $100,000 per domain name, plus you may have to disgorge profits, and pay opposing counsel fees.

Thanks for all the info gentlemen.

Regarding MySpaceSupport and other such sites, although Myspace was sending out bulk generic C&D's at the beginning of the year, they have backed off from sites like MySpaceSupport which actually 'benefit' MySpace. Or so the word on the net goes ... you'll notice that MySpaceSupport even took down the info about the lawsuit which they had on their site.

Either way, point taken, won't be putting these on the open market anytime soon.

They are now worthless, Myspace is going after anyone who has site with "myspace" in the domain. A friend of mine lost 3 of his domains to them because he wasn't going to fight the legal action they threw on him. You should have sold them long ago.

Did he get the generic C&D in early-mid January? Did he have sites on the domains or just redirecting the domains? Were the sites obviously aimed at making money or were they "Myspace Enhancement" type sites?

                                    Thanks for the info.

Understood, but do you know of any that have actually been shutdown? Also, News Corp has to ask itself .. is taking down a site like MySpaceSupport and thus killing thousands of images on Myspace profiles (and upsetting a lot of their users) really in their best interest?

I read where the Myspacesupport guy said he was in discussions with Tom, then suddenly the lawsuit was no longer an issue, but Tom's not really in charge anymore is he? There's gotta be more to the story. Very curious to me why that site is still up ... when I say that Myspace has backed down from "Myspace Enhancing" sites I am simply repeating Internet chatter and speculation.

                                            Thanks for the input!
