Its a very nice plac, depends what areas you go to, I am about 15 minutes north of Detroit and its very nice out here, 8 mile Rd is nothing but companies and titty bars, its a fun road to hang out on if your lookin for tits go 5 minutes north of 8 mile and it starts getting very nice, and by the way the 8 Mile movie 90% of it wasnt even shot on 8 mile it was shot in the hood about 15 minutes south of 8 mile

Detroit is HORRIBLE. But then it figures, Kwame Killpatrick was voted the 2nd worst mayor in the country. When you get outside of Detroit though (30 mins or so) you hit one of the richest counties in the country (Oakland County). So it has its good and its bad.
If it tells you anything, when I was 16 y/o (yes you read that right) I was an ARMED security guard at a Toys R' Us at 8 1/2 Mile and Gratiot. I saw a gunfight in the parking lot and quit the job that day. They gave me this rusted out 38 revolver and rusty ammunition. I think I spent a week on the job there. The Detroit airport is AWESOME!!! If I have to get stopped at an airport I certainly don't mind it there. They have free highspeed wireless internet, a massage place and tons of things to do.
The suburbs of Detroit are very nice and the downtown core (right near the bridge to windsor) isn't actually all that bad.

It definitely has its good and bad areas, but it's really changed in the past 10 years. There's more things to do downtown. I wouldn't necessarily call it safe, though.
Pete is right about 8 Mile (the movie). I would say that only 5 minutes of the movie was filmed on 8 mile. There are a few nice strip clubs to go to though.Comment

LOL Detroit isnt that bad. I grew up outsdie of detroit and lived there for 23 years. They actually cleaned it up a lot. If you want something to do greek town and the casino area are fun places. If you want culture you can go to the henery ford musuem.Comment
