Boyband Busted have split up after Charlie Simpson quit to form a new band.
The trio confirmed the news at an emotion-charged press conference in central London - with Matt Jay leaving in tears and having to console distraught fans outside afterwards.
Charlie admitted it was his decision and was quick to quash rumours he did not get on with Matt and third bandmate James Bourne.
""I'd like to say that I've been slightly concerned about the things I've read in the press recently saying that the band hasn't got on and I'm embarrassed about being in the band," said ex-public schoolboy Charlie.
"I'd like to quash those rumours. I've had the most amazing three years."
And he isn't hanging around - Charlie sped off in his BMW 4x4 and kicks off his first tour with new band Fightstar just hours later in Warwickshire.
James added: "It's sad that Charlie feels the way he does, but we respect his decision.
"We're sorry the fans had to find out through the papers. We wanted to tell the fans ourselves."
Matt was so upset by the announcement that he left in tears. He later embraced several teenage girl fans as he wiped tears from his eyes and told them: "Thank you for everything."
The band shot to fame in September 2002 with debut hit What I Go To School For. They enjoyed seven more hits before calling it a day.
