    Wikipedia is DOWN

The problem is most likely temporary and will hopefully be fixed soon. Please check back in a few minutes.

For further information, you can visit the #wikipedia channel on the Freenode IRC network.

In the meantime, you may be able to view Google's cached version of this page.

Wikipedia is now one of the most visited sites on the Internet by traffic and continues to grow, and as a result the Wikimedia Foundation has a constant need to purchase new hardware. If you would like to help, please donate.
I bet they will get high $xx,xxx in donations from the downtime.

In the meantime, try a mirror. Exploding Produce, for instance:

                http://www.explodingproduce.com

                Got everything but the images.

Neat. Personally, I just started my OWN Wikipedia clone, using their content (under the GDFL), and Google AdSense. Works nicely.

Seems pretty hard to get search engine traffic for duplicate content.

Yup, if you're a moron. The Wikipedia acknowledges that "duplicate content" sites, in some cases, now rank higher than the Wikipedia itself.

I have so many GFDL-licensed Wikipedia pages, it's sick. They make nice AdSense money. In every case, I've linked back to the Wikipedia, so that users can have the "freshest" version. It's not a competition thing -- you're bringing users in through SEO that the Wikipedia itself may not have gotten. On the way through, sometimes they click some ads. Everyone wins.

With some of my "full" Wikipedia mirrors, I have had people add "custom" content in specific areas, which helps a ton with traffic as well.
