when should rockstars retire?

i think after you've made ten albums that you have become a legend, therefore on your 40th birthday you should think about hanging up the leather pants. theres too many rockers out there that i used to really love and rock to but are just plain old now.

ozzy, lemmy, jaggar, david lee roth, etc...

they all rocked at one time and are legends in my eyes, but why do they still take the stage and play live

I saw David Bowie twice last year and he was amazing.

I think youth is part of rock, but there is something to be said for the stature that age can bring.

But it has to be evaluated on an individual basis....some guys like Ozzie should just be buried now while they are ahead.

bowie is good, but he also was never a very animated guy on stage. i'm looking at all the rockers who really used to have a stage presence. now thats something in youth that they had that was amazing. but seeing a legend on stage just standing there belting out tunes is kind of boring for me nowadays

while Ozzy may seem to have issues on his show, once he hits the stage, he's still a fucking madman

most of these guys have spent a majority of their life on the stage, they couldn't quit if they wanted to, it's part of them and stay in their blood....

Best concert ever seen by me was KISS in 2000-2001. They may be 50 but playing like they did in 76 in full gear, packed arenas for 4 hours is/was amazing. No other band in history has a marketed presence like Gene Simmons and KISS. Ace is flat out amazing when he is not sauced.

My brother went to Judas Priest concert last year and said it was a blast.
My brother's 36 and I don't even want to think how old are the Judas Priest guys. So, to answer you question, the guys from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc should NEVER retire. Babes like Britney should retire at age of 19 max ;)

never! seriously the old rockers put on a better show than any of these new bands...and I'm young...Metallica, Ozzy, Maiden, I have seen those 3 and tons of new bands and the old tops put on a show thats 10x better

Beacause honestly compared to a concert of Kiss, Peter Grabriel, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, etc, the new band shows seem like a high school gig. Of course with a few rare exceptions

Rock'nRoll is a life style and as long as those guys are capable of putting on a good show and bringing in the crowds, who cares if they are old or not.
