Heat does help sometimes, though. It's an infection, so you really need an antibiotic.

Sounds about right. Last time it happened to me, it perforated before I made it to the doctor which made it feel 1000x better, but my hearing has been messed up since (~3 months ago). Time to go visit the ENT.
