I have not had a land line for 5 months and I've been using my Cell as my only phone. So far it's been great but the only issue was once I forget to charge it. No biggie though.

my mom is the same way, she got rid of her phone land line and only uses her cell. seems to work great for her.

i have both, but i actually keep my landline phone unplugged all the time & just pay the $15 a month to keep it activated.
too many fuckin annoying calls come in everyday, and im sick of the answering machine goin off & having those tellamarketers, car salesman (for when i was lookin for a car last year), etc etc filling up my machine.
the only reason why i havent disconnected it (yet) is cuz we're (me and the boyfriend) not sure if we wanna keep the # or not.
i love my cell phone, cuz i know that EVERY time it rings, its actually someone i KNOW calling me, and not some phone spammer lol

i only use a cell. i travel all over the place, so it's just stupid for me to give out a land line number to anyone. the only reason i have them anymore is for faxing.we'll miss you our friend. RIPComment

What kind of cell do you have? I have a samsung vga1000 and sometimes for no reason it gets so hot when I'm on it I feel like its going to burn my cheek... I was thinking of Vonage in the future though becasue of the long talks using long distance. I've gone over minutes only a few times. Now I have 1500 anytime minutes, free long distance, and the backup internet connectin incase cable goes down....Comment

Sounds like you guys have capped plans... not so lucky here.
We moved and it took about 6 weeks to get a phone line installed, so in the meantime we had to use our mobiles (cells). Because we had just moved into a brand new home I had a heap of companies to call to sort out fencing, blinds, etc. Even though I'm on a business plan with 'reasonable' daytime rates it added about $AUD400 ($USD312) to our next bill.
Mobile calls are a ripoff here. Kids are going into debt before they've even finished school.Comment

I dumped all land lines because 9 out of 10 calls were freakin' telemarketers and it was wasting too much time. Now I have 2 cells... 1 for the US, and one I take with me overseas that I change out the SIMS card in.
Been running this way for over a year with no problems.
One thing you may want to do is get an extra batt if you cant remember to charge your phone. I make a habit of plugging it in every night right after I brush my teeth.Comment

No cell here. I don't really ever leave the house, and I would think it would be more expensive to be using a cell for calls than a landline. I'd love to switch to Vonage to save me some money but my connection seems to go down a lot.

I was cell only for about 5 months. But I got a cheap VoIP line for my house last February. I haven't had an actual land line since Sept. 03.

I have all forms of lines here at the command center.
1. Landline - faxing and we have a golf course across from us that kills the cell signals at times in the house so we have to use that for backup when needed. Plus, the phone company provides all my voicemail, caller ID and we joined the "do not call list" that got rid of all telemarketers.
2. Cell - Old tmobile deal that I got 10,000 minutes for $99 a month when it first came to my area. I signed up for 3 years and havent had a SINGLE overage again. My wife used to run the bill thru the roof with overages before we had this plan. Its not even offered anymore from what Ive seen.
3. VOIP line - my 100% Biz only line that came in with a nifty Cisco 7906 phone. The performance for me is lacking when the network here slows down (cable modem 3mbps package for my home office) I've had a few calls drop off and had to break out the landline again.Comment

My cell cuts out too much for me to feel safe with it and 911, alarm calls, faxing, dial up on the lap top when the power (DSL) goes out, are all concerns.
