I'm talking with a childhood friend, and we've been discussing how some families still find the time to sit down with eachother for atleast one meal a day. It makes me think about the value that this simple daily acts as some sort of glue in the crazy lives people lead - providing much needed family time. Of those here who have families, who still finds the time to sit down with them for atleast one meal a day?
Do you sit down with your family for dinner?

when I was younger it is a tradition in the family that you must eat your meal in the dining table with the family. my dad would scold me everytime I would skip meal and he would see me after eating in my room. -
That is the one thing I'm dead firm on in my house. Me and my two hellions ALWAYS sit at the table and have dinner. It's really the only time you have to bond and learn about what's going on.
I can't wait for my weather to get better so that I can bbq every single night too.Comment

That's why I'm loving having moved from Boston to SoCal. I'm barbequing like a fiend. I have the grill hooked up to the gas line in my house so i never have to bother refilling tanks... That's what i mean about bonding with the family - theres just not as much of it these days and familes are becoming more dissconnected. The american family structure is going down the shitter, and it's going to have major effects on society.Last edited by dissipate; 04-03-2006, 01:10 AM.Comment

I have a 2 year old at home so I'm not about to miss a dinner time together with my wife. I think about once every couple of months my wife will plan something with the girls and I'll take little Tatiana out to dinner but dinner is our family time and I don't plan on giving it up any time soon.Comment

I'm a single parent of two, and I am a real bitch about family being together at the dinner table. It simply is a "must do" at my house.
We have some kick ass conversations, covering all sorts of topics. Now and then, we make it extra special by doing a candlelight dinner.
I remember coming up and never knowing when my stepdad's backhand was going to knock you the fuck out of your chair for no reason when you were eating supper. I was on valium by the time I was in 4th grade, and had an ulcer shortly after that.
Discord at the dinner table is hell on the digestive system. ;)
Added to that, the world is too busy these days. Setting down together for a meal helps us reconnect. I wouldn't trade it for anything.~

Had dinner with my family every night as a kid. Never really thought about it until this thread, but it'll definately be that way when I have my own wife and kids. I've always been real close with my family and I'm sure this has a lot to do with it.Comment
