Cybererotica Debuts Adult Website Newsstand Publication...Do you think it will work?

Do you think the new print magazine by Cybererotica will be effective? I mean targeting offline readers for online adult sites? Do you think more than 90% of offline potential customers have internet now?

I think its a great idea. Either way, its a good strategy to integrate out into offline media. Good way to get some mindshare.

I never like saying discouraging things, but no I would be amazed if it takes and holds. Adult print is not a growth industry. Someone else tried something like this and it didn't last more than a couple issues.

Look at the numbers. 100,000 units per quarter? Most people in here do that kind of reach on a daily basis, some do it in a couple hours. Our customers are online and want realtime info not info that's 6 months old and that's the time cycle you deal with in real world publishing.

Look at our Men.com Calendar for example. Its 2007. When the publishing company said that would be the earliest issue in 2004 I was like say what? By the time it comes out, everything could be completely different. That's the real world limitations in the publishing business.

Yes, people will look at it at the newsstand, and some will surely sit there and make notes if they see a URL that strikes their fancy. But will they buy it and bring it home for the wife/girlfriend to find laying around? Will they buy it and take it to the office where co-workers will come across it? This is the problem you run into. Discretion. Paper is not discreet. It can't be hidden away in the depths of a hard drive where no one will find it.

Plus the cost factor. Adult print mags lost their selling edge when they raised prices to ridiculous amounts for the consumer and the advertisers.

I wish them luck and hope they succeed. But I've been a print advertiser for two decades and have a lot of experience and knowledge about it and its just a tough business since the Net arrived.

But good luck with it. You never know.

I believe the majority of you are simply wrong. Print publications will be around for quite some time to come until a few generations of people who are used to holding a paper magazine in their hands. I LIVE online, and yet, there is STILL a stack of magazines all around me. I simply can't get into the hang of reading from my PC or PocketPC exclusively. I prefer the stable feel of a magazine. A permanent billboard that lays around staring at you for at least a month? And you don't think that will work? You must be kidding.

There is an entire business in selling old unpurchased adult mags that didn't sell "first time around." Magazine packs are quite profitable for all involved.

I wish them great success but print is dying and people that are magazine people dont tend to be internet people. Ask any model who did print and they let her put her url in the aritcle about her. Very little action from it.I know three that were in pretty big maagazines. Adult print buyers are different from adult internet buyers.

um...that side of the industry is not near as big as you might think

well, see, the problem comes in here, the ONLY way to tell if there was a hit from a magazine is a sudden increase in traffic...cause they are just cold typing the url, so there is no referrer or anything....
i agree though, we had a few magazines published with our url in the layout, and we didn't notice very much of a spike in traffic...

Welp, I have seen CE do alot of things, and I would not be surprised if they do not take this concept online as well. I believe we are hearing only one slice of a very big pizza.

                        Smart move on their part.

There is NO question any genre that reviews sites has "golden" readers and traffic, these are the folks that want to spend money.

                        Ups! CE!

thanks Lee, you are very correct in your assumption that this is one piece of a much bigger picture.

The distirbution and exposure is not just linear in one place...to think there will not be an online aspect coming is very limited thinking.

I am online all the time, but I have a ton of mags that I subscribe to and buy off stands...it is my referred mode of reading, not just online.

print will never die...and for any doubters...get in this new marketing outlet mag, put a promo code in your ad and track it then.

times have changed for this industry, it's time people's marketing exposure and experience change with it.

And from what I have seen over the last couple of days of ad sign ups...it looks like peeps are willing to test different options to market their sites and on an even bigger picture, market the entire online adult industry as a whole, which is what this mag will be doing.

                          my 2c.

Very interesting input and impressive outlook from everyones prospective....keep it coming everyone...its interesting to see how people see with print and online marketing....

i myself being a big pioneer in the print business, understand what some of you say about print but there are some facts about online that has put a dent to the print industry...

I remember when working with Ron from CyberErotica in the 900 number business and how great the ads he had placed in magazines and also how great my invention of 900 personals did...but i had to face it, the internet had a very major impact on print success...

who knows maybe enough people have internet and pick up a print magazine to go onto adult sites now? interesting to see how this does...

                              I'm curious about the content.

I really want to see how they position the content, both photo and copy-wise. They could go soft and compete with Maxim, FHM and the thousand others, but will have to put some serious writers on the case. Or, they could go really hardcore and out-porn Hustler, Penthouse and the rest, but this would put them out of some distribution channels.

I'm sure some red-state hicks are going to buy it just to see what the chatter about those damn internets is all about. Any way it goes will be interesting.

the industry is 'tuff' in general...I don't see this venture as a 'if' it succeeds, I see it as a 'when' it does. Because it will, because it markets not only sites, it markets the industry as a whole. not such a bad thing.

I see some huge potential. Think about it; how many people have given up on onlin e porn alrready beacause of shitty sites, pop-ups, spyware, dialers, ..., ... this could get them intersted again. On the other hand regular magazine readers could become aware of the intrenet (while the internet is ahuge part of our lives there are millions and milions of people who never had interest, are afreight to start using it,...,...,...).
If I had a paysite that i'd believed in I'd advertise and give away 100% free 30 minutes 'sneek preview' passes thru that magazine. If people like what they see they will pull their cc and signup. These are the people that spend high amounts on 35 printed pics so they are willing to pay for millions of pics aswell.

                                              It's a very intrigueing idea.

CyberSocket tried it/ or is doing it with their gay publications(s). I think the straight market may work better, because it is larger, and because CE may have more relative marketing clout.

Online is great for clandestine viewing, but has its drawbacks as well. A webpage disappears in an instant click. Magazines tend to have long shelf lives.
