what type do you have?
have a friend with type 3, who had to take a needle before every meal, and check his blood sugar extremely often
ended up getting some pump thing that went into his stomach so he didn't have to take 3 shots a day.
also do they give you bracelets and stuff u have to wear so that paramedics know you have diabetes?I like turtles.Comment

When I found out, my wife got me a Freestyle Meter. Don't have to use the fingers. works on the forearm, very rarely feel a thing.
Target also has test strips that work in it, about 1/4 the cost of the Freestyle strips.

Juicy, what was your A1C? That's a more accurate reading of diabetes than a regular glucose reading.
Which medication did they put you on? Actos? Glucophage? Avandia?
You can still eat the foods you like, just in very very small quantities. You'll learn that sugar-free foods, for the most part, have MORE carbs than the regular product. Try to avoid foods with sugar alcohol and/or Sorbitol, Mannitol or Mallitol. They're affectionately called Turbo Lax.
If you're taking a pill, you're either Type 1.5 or Type 2. Follow the regimen, watch the diet, exercise and you'll be fine.
One thing to remember, your sugar will almost always spike high if you're sick and there isn't much you can do except get well quick.Make bank by giving your surfers free pics every day and it costs you NOTHING! Type I - which is usually Insulin dependant (needle)
Type II - which is not normally Insulin dependant (can be controlled by proper diet, excercise & pills in most cases)
Gestational - only occurs during pregnancy
and then of course there's the juvenile Diabetic which can be either Type I or Type II.
I happen to be a Type II Diabetic and it's not the end of the world, as long as you control IT...don't let it control YOU.

Type 1 is caused by a damaged (infected) pancreas which normaly produces the insuline to reduce a to high glucose. This type is irreversable, and you have to inject insuline for life.
Type 2 is caused by the fact that the cells that normally get their fuel from the glucose don't react so well to it anymore because they got kinda oversaturated by logtime high glucose levels (overweight and not enough body exercise can play a role here). So insuline is still produced in this case.
Losing weight and getting a fit body helps in this situation, some people get as good as cured.
Type 3 occurs during pregnancy and will go away.
Type 4 is caused by some (car)accident where the pancreas got damagedComment
