If youre going to a tanning salon and you come out red or burned (assuming you didnt use a tingle lotion) - then find yourself another tanning salon - that one doesnt know what the fuck they are doing - you dont tan if you burn and any salon that turns your skin pink ought to be shut down.
If you really want to get a good tan - 50% of it has nothing to do with the salon - its what you do at home - get yourself a bottle of aloe or vitamin D moisteurizer (with no smelly shit in it) and use it as many times a day as you can stand - the more water your outer skin absorbs and retains - the quicker you will tan. If you use any skin products with alcohol or abrasives in them - stop using them - why take off the skin you just paid to try to tan? Thats why youll hear women complain about not being able to get a good tan on their legs - simple answer is because they shave their legs all the time which removes those outer layers of skin they just tanned
