I think there are hundreds of stars who deserve to be overrated before Prince would....
Kevin Smith's story about working with him though is priceless and hilarious, you can see it in An Evening with Kevin Smith DVDSkype variuscr - Email varius AT gmailComment

How can you know he is talented if you dont like his music? Because he is innovative? You can be as innovative as you want, if you dont endup with something that people(or atleast a fair 1 of people) will enjoy greatly.. I think you missed the mark..Comment

Yes, Prince has made about 100+ songs that I love and listen to over and over.
Overrated = Michael Pedo Jackson.

He is talented and industrious. Very few artists can match him on the scope of his contributions and brilliance of his work.
His music is just the tip of the iceberg when in comes to recognizing what he has done for the music industry.
He's on my top 5 list of all time creative artists.

You have a point. I wouldn't say Prince deserves legendary status. So in that sense he may be overrated. I see him only as a very talented musician and original artist. Aside from his own music, he has also written and from what I understand composed many songs for other artists that went on to become huge hits.Originally posted by xxxdesign-netimitate their style of music.. rock and roll..

I don't hear his influence in much of today's music and I think the direction of music probably has something to do with it. Prince has more or less rejected hip-hop and he wasn't a precursor to the "alternative" music that Nirvana played. Both hip-hop and alternative rock are what dominate the music scene today so it may not be surprising that we don't hear his influence. I think he's loved because he consistently created original music and he has been pretty prolific (in other words, far from a one hit wonder)
The only person I can think of that has had any profound effect on music since Elvis is Bob Marley. You can hear his influence in all forms of music today including hip-hop, rock, punk, "alternative". He sells more albums than the Beatles, Zeppelin, and all the other heavy hitters each year. And in every far reach of the globe the name Bob Marley is recognizable.Comment
