I just saw a story a week or two ago on the news about them getting rid of it (in the US, at least).
I believe it mentioned something about the temperature that you heat it up to. Higher temperatures for longer periods are supposed to be bad and let off more of the toxic gasses. When they did studies, rats and mice who were exposed to whatever the chemical/gas is, developed brain tumors. All of which is really lovely, as my father (who has eaten food from Teflon pans probably every day since he and my mom were married) is currently dying from a brain tumor at 55 years old. Just one more thing to make you wonder.
