Yet they lived forever! My Bubbe was 96 when she died. My grandmother was 88! All their lives they ate chicken fat, everything salted, yet longevity was their backbone!
Carbs shmarbs! They ate bagels but jeez, when my grandmother made her homemade bagels, they were small, not the humungous things you see today that are all light and airy and more like dessert. Puleeze, chocolate chip bagels? Sun dried tomato bagels? Poppy seed with a shmear!
Kugel was a staple and godnose it's not low carb or low fat. I don't even want to think what was in the kishke that was so good.
