Been there done that. Life is VERY cheap there for some stuff but very expensive for other things.
IE:
You can get a case of beer (24 bottles) for like 1$.
But a drink in the "foreigners" clubs cost you 8$/pint.
Rent is kind of expensive too, you can count on 500$/month for a decent apartment.
Been to a jazz bar once, didn't see the tab until the end of the nigh. Was drinking with 2 other people and we payed around 300$/night. ouch!
Oh, and go load up your suitcase full of DVDs, you can get all the recent ones for like 1 or 2$/piece...

nightlife = average to great - depending on your connections (are you chinese - if no - better have damn good connections)

A friend of mine just told me has was there some weeks ago... Europeans/Westerners were treated almost like gods... served first and not hassled whatsoever... they made friends with a nightclub owner and partied till the morning with free drinks and shit whereas chinese people had to leave the clubs at 2am on weekdays...
He told me there was a policeman running into the club in the middle of the night shouting like a madman, then he saw them "AHHHHH; EULOPA!!!! GOOOOOD!!!" and left without another word...
beer war 10 cents a glass and you can also get tons of cheap counterfeit designer clothing like in thailand...Comment
