I haven't tried one of these programs before, if you go over the number of referrals, what happens? Like if you are supposed to refer 5 people but you refer more, can you get additional stuff or are you just cut there?

Basicly its a marketing gimic and a damn good one in for gratis, You refer friends, they complete a offer, usally a free trial of columbia house and they can cancel before they are billed and they get a credit, if you get 10 friends to do it then bam they order the product from amazon usally and send you it, a friend of mine got the pc, lcd monitor, ipod, dvds, and other shit from gratis haha

There's been a few stories in Wired and such that have verified this Gratis company as legit. They make their money by the offers you have to complete in order to get the free item.

You could do the same thing if you do up the math right, have X amount of people have to compete 1 affiliate deal that will pay you Y amount of dollars, plus Z many people for them to refer to do 1 affiliate deal. Add up the average affiliate pay that will come in per person signed up and you'll have a number to figure out how expensive of a product you can give out. Plus you could figure in the amount of people signing up and not completing enough referrals.
