Hollywood is tricking itself with two major themes:
Names sell.
History is worth repeating.
Repeating history makes it easy to come up with the situation (it is already there) and you can play the characters as they were before without issue. They don't need to invent anything new, just play the existing characters a little over the top and away you go.
Name sell: This use to be true, until the press machine and the entertainment tonights and people magazines and whatnot got involved and pretty much played each celeb out as fast as possible. Now they are "here today, gone later today" because they have little staying power.
More and more the stars are getting talked into being part of these stupid replay of the 70s bullshit, and they embarrass and lower themselves down to being just clowns.
Hollywood wonders why box office keeps dropping. They should find a mirror.
