priceline.com users for hotels? good deal?

Does anyone know what is the best deal for hotels? I am looking for San Fran or Waikiki hotels for a few days from now, short trip.

Can priceline.com be better than orbitz.com prices? And by how much? Any bidding tips?

4-Star Deluxe - Suggested retail price of $231
That's for San Fran. Retail is $231/night for a 4*? Didn't know that.

Priceline can be really good if you know how to use it, much better than orbitz and the others. The first step is to go to www.biddingfortravel.com and view the hotels priceline uses for the city you will be wanting to stay in. Then look at what other people have recently won bids for on priceline in your city. This way you don't overbid as priceline would like you to. I would imagine Waikiki might be difficult, but I know for sure you can get a great deal in San Fran as I've stayed in a 4 star hotel there right in downtown for $70/night
