The Heron, in the end, Visa and Mastercard (and the IPSPs) are enforcing moral standards onto this industry because we are obviously unable to control ourselves.
Freedom of speech shouldn't ever be an absolute, but because the US constituion is a "yes/no" document, we end up in a situation where the question isn't "good/bad" but "legal/illegal" with little consideration for the overall effect past the idea that you can legally do this or that.
