try H&M, Bon Marche (which in some NW states has already changed to Bon-Macys) and when in a pinch, old navy is great for cheap stuff, cuz designers really arent worth the money for such a short wear. I just went through what youre doing now, and it cost me a TON until I realized old navy and even target has some cute stuff, especially if you are only going to wear it 3 or 4 times before you move on.
