I just got one of those dvd players that plays EVERYTHING...

fucking sony and their obvious hate towards anything burned...I had to get a second dvd player

this one plays DVD-Video (NTSC, PAL, P-SCAN), audio CD, VCD, CD-R, CD-RW, SVCD, JPG CD, MP3 CD, MPEG CD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW

also it plays both NTSC and PAL

this thing will seriously play anything, and videohelp.com rates it as one of the better ones

and I got it for $30...LOL

Mine plays every format under the sun, but I have to get it modified because it's not region-independant, so now I can't play all my North American dvds

I got the Toshiba dvd player/burner that reads everything and writes to everything. That way I don't have to worry about +r or -r or +-rw or whatever.

It's basically TIVO without the fees. You just program it to record your tv shows...and if you use RAM discs, you can watch a program while you record it, pause it, and do everything else TIVO can do. Pretty sweet.

Lately I've been watching more tv shows and movies on Windows Media Center on my computer though.

                                    and I don't even own an mp4, so that isn't a worry

well, we have the dual tuner directivo, and that is only $5 a month....so we can actually record 2 shows at once from the same tv...and it is all one unit, so you control everything from the single control panel in the tivo
