My latest idea...all comments welcomed please

I am going to be starting a dating site peer to peer.

Why am I sharing this?

Because I really want your comments and suggestion (because it matters) and I already have the technology and the wherewithall to do this immediately and I could give a fuck less if you try and copy me

There are 70 million people that are file-sharing everyday..they are sharing files of music, porn, but no peerdating yet.

p2p'ers would put in search terms like "hot blond women" or "busty babe" and what would come up would be a drm'ed video file of a member of our dating site which would have been submitted by that individual. If the file-sharer likes what he or she has come across..they would then click "proceed" which will enable them to join right there and then on the license window.

Good idea, but man... You don't tell stuff like that on a public forum until you go live The last thing you want is a Russian coder working all night to release this piece of software and make a few headlines.

Several things to think about:

1. Many will be afraid of exposing personal information in a program that might contain spyware/adware that they're not aware of.

2. Why do it Windows-based? The whole world is shifting to software on demand anyway. Don't forget that many will want to access it from a friend's house, vacation, etc.

3. It's a nice gimmick, but again, what will set you apart from existing dating sites (don't get me wrong, I think existing sites SUCK and there's a lot of room for new players, but still.. Windows-based?)

4. This would have worked great 4 years ago. Nowadays many people have pics stored in all kinds of image hosts, blogs, etc.

5. Privacy advocates will say customers are exposed to more risks as opposed to a true web-based application (IP shit). Thing is, it will have many teenagers using it, so parents will probably agree with them.

Why not make it web-based? (I'm assuming you're doing it Windows-based, correct me if I'm wrong). What will being on Windows give you that an advanced web-app won't?

I created this thread for exactly this purpose..I want to hear everything you have to say.

We are doing it Windows based for marketing purposes via DRM.. the actual website will be web-based.

FIVE years ago a company I worked with tried to do a Match.com copycat with members' videos for download. The market was absolutely not ready for that back then. Could be it is now, I don't know, haven't been much into it in the past few years. Webcams are very popular and it might take off pretty nice.

You should be looking for members these days. Go look for them. Ask them if they want to join and give them free membership for a year. I'd start a project like this in one area (SF Bay Area, just like Craigslist). Get 500 people to submit videos or come to some studio. Put an ad on SF's Craigslist and you'll get 1,000 responses in a day.

Will be up later this year It's an EXTREMELY unique project. Can't say much about it until we're 2-3 weeks away. Although it will take at least 6 MONTHS for someone to catch up and do the same.. I sleep better this way

the only way this would be of any use is if it were p2p direct webcam chat searchable my location and sex and shit BUT then security issues would arise and people wouldnt feel safe running the app. I say this because alot of the major dating sites allow people to record and upload video clips and even sound clips so whats the point of having a p2p place to do it?

Peer-to-peer filing share is so popular because they're getting free music, free software, and free porn. If you could get people (pay?) to submit a video profile, sexy or not, and then have those videos distributed free in a peer-to-peer system and then have the people who like the others join to chat with them... it could possibly work, but you'd have to pay people $5-$10+ to submit videos, and then charge $5-$10+ to join, and hopefully you have more joins than videos you pay for.
