I do it. I'm sure it depends where you're from. If you need to get so culturally biased because a person grew up using the term 'bro', because it's prevalent and acceptable in their environment then you've got bigger issues with yourself to deal with. I can see it especially if your phrase suits using the persons name but don't especially know it or want to use it.
Example; your nick is CumSwapper. "You around Cumswapper?" or "You around bro?" Considering you grew up using 'bro' and it's used by everyone else in your environment, you go with it. If someone else considers it ignorant, or other.. that's just unfortunate.
