I disagree, if you want to decide where your money goes donate it to the charity of choice...I dont drive to work daily, why do I pay for roads? -

It's tax deductable so that all the queens who don't donate still technically give money to it. That's if they pay their taxes. So, having it tax deductable is just a way of saying, if one guy gives, you all give.

Screw that... we pay taxes out the ass. Nearly EVERYTHING you buy is taxed. We ALL pay taxes, even if it's not income tax, property tax etc. We give a LOT to the government, every single day. And giving to charity yes comes out of the goodness of your heart and that tax deductible is between you and the government, not between you and the charity you gave to. We're not asking the charity we donated to, to give us money back... we're getting credit from the government. In NY we pay taxes on our phones, clothes, cheeseburger from McDonalds... you name it, chances are we are taxed for it. All the taxes we pay and where does it go? Iraq, Israel, toilet paper for the White House, it goes everywhere but do I have health insurance? Not without paying $500/month. Does the government give anything to me? Not a chance.
