I like the spanish brands. Expensive to have it brought into the US though.
No real stories with it I guess. It's not all that, but I do feel a sort of cleaner feeling when i'm drunk on it. Regular vodka or the like just clouds your head. Absinthe didn't seem to do that to me.

IMO, it's expensive to try, and i'm betting a lot of you won't like it. At first, it's overpoweringly licorice flavored. Once you try a few brands (I liked the spanish more than the french, the french stuff was simple, and tasted greasy and salty).

If you do try and order it, look for the lower percentage of alcohol, not the higher. You are looking for higher levels of Wormwood, and lower levels of alcohol.
Remember: Fresh ice-cold H20, sugar cubes and a deep soupspoon.Comment

From the fine spirits corner? No. It took forever for the bottles to arrive, and shipping is damn expensive. I've ordered from them 3 times, and each time things went fine.
I ordered 5 different bottles at the same time, since they cut shipping costs a bit. If anything I could have sold the extra bottles, but instead I just sampled and eventually drank them all.

Mari mayans is the ultra bright green absinthe, but it has no wormwood, and is simple.
For a party drink kind of thing, it's cool, just because the vibrant green color, and the louche is amazing. They also sell single bottles on their own website, and it's not too expensive. but it isn't truly absinthe without it.Comment

Yeah, part of the fun is setting everything up. It's like the heorin of alcohol, since there is a sort of ritual behind it.
Most people dilute it with 10:1 water, which I found made it way too weak. My mixes were 1:1, with very little sugar.Comment

My buddy just got into trouble last month for trying to bring some of that shit and some seeds back from Amsterdam to the states. US customs got him and confiscated everything and gave him a nice $500 fine.

Well, I let most of my friends try it, but they all hated it. Only one girl I know liked it.
So IMO, expect not to like the taste too much. It took me a little while, but after I got used to that licorice (anise) taste, I started tasting everything else, and started enjoying it.Comment
