I think it's a good thing to teach kids about guns and gun safety. My dad taught me when I was 10.

The question shouldnt be if a kid can learn about gun safety. I'm sure it can. The question should be if it's mature enough to make proper decisions and not something that will regret for the rest of his life. This arises from the easy access to guns in states.

I've heard that there are some quality concerns with the P22. Sights falling off and the like. Also I heard that they stovepipe, fail to fire, and fail to eject quite often. I was seriously looking at purchasing one as well, but after firing a friends, I wasn't all that impressed.

I don't think it's a bad thing at all to teach you kid especially when you are in the situation you are in where you know he goes over to places with guns..

I think it is the right way. I took my children through an Arizona Game and Fish sponsored hunters safety class when they were quite young. They learned basic gun safety, shot rifles, shotguns and handguns with a trained instructor and learned the rules and safety precautions. Better this way than having a television inspired gang concept of guns.

Well, we don't have guns in canada...so to be honest, except for the handle of a gun peeking out of the holster on a cops belt my kids have never seen one or heard one go off.

Some people do have guns for hunting here, but we aren't hunters and don't know anyone that does. I have to admit, I like it this way.

Have you ever tried to do a drive by with a knife? Or tried to rob a bank with a can of pepper spray?

Sure it's people that kill people, but making it easier just isn't very smart. There's a real good chance that a person would be less inclined to shoot someone if they didn't have access to a gun in the first place.

                                              Personally? I hate guns.

But on the other side of the coin, I love to see kids educated about guns. I'll agree that teaching gun safety and showing how to properly fire a gun can be two different things, but sometimes it takes having the gun in your hand, and pulling the trigger yourself, to show just what those things are capable of.

Good on ya for raising your boy with sense.

What do you have to do to purchase a handgun in the US? In Canada they make it such a pain in the ass that almost no one has handguns. Too much work to get one!

Sure it's people that kill people, but making it easier just isn't very smart. There's a real good chance that a person would be less inclined to shoot someone if they didn't have access to a gun in the first place.
