Younger people you better listen up.

I just brought my husband home at what has been a horrible last several years. A few years ago, we thought he was having a heart attack, and had him checked, his heart was fine. They said something about his colesterol being bad, so we have been watching it since then.

It got progressively worse over the past 3-4 years until we had to take him in about a month or so ago to get it checked, he was having hell eating anything anymore. So we went in for what we thought was going to be a simple checkup. They ran a biopsy on him, thinking he may have cancer or some shit in his throat, an ultrasound on his stomach, and god knows what all.

TODAY we brought him home from the hospital after havng to have his gall bladder removed and after this heals, he has to have a Ventral Hernia repaired. And almost ALL of this was stemmed from his eating habits when he was younger. He is only 40 now, but his eating habits were a nightmare to say the least. He was in a band and traveled with that, and after that he drove a big truck for a few years, so he was always eating on the run and fatty foods were like a calling card to him. I don't think he knew what a fruit or vegetable was until about 3-4 years ago, but by then it was done too damn late.

So word to the wise, all you people who are always traveling or on the go, you best eat right now or you are going to pay for it later. Take care of your bodies now or they are going to take care of you later, and I don't mean in a good way.

Luckily they caught his in time, but some aren't so damn lucky. So if you are on the go, make sure you eat right, seriously. This has been pretty damn scarey.

Eeeks that is scary. They told me a couple months ago that my triglycerides were at 388.. I guess high starts at 160. So yeah changing your eating habits are very important. The sooner the better. It's hard to do though if you like greasy food and BUTTER and all that good stuff.

Good story and great advice there Tam! 40 is way to young to have to deal with things like that.

Boy you are telling me, I had to all but RElearn how to cook. I eat pretty decent, always have. I prefer veggies over fatty stuff anyday of the week, but I still like my fries and things like that. But I very seldom ever fry anything anymore, bought a steamer and when we go out, we make sure we eat at a buffet where they have steamed veggies and fresh fruits and things like that.

I have actually learned a lot of great ways to prepare things without the butter and other such fattening seasongs. lol

ready lube, you are damn right he is far too young to be going thru this. That's why I say that people best start eating right now. In this day and age, fatty fried, on the run sort of foods seem to be what it is about. YIKES!!

He is fine, and will be NOW, but man it has been scarey as hell. Thanks for all the well wishes, yes, even from you Luc, I'll look over your weird comments. lol

NO shit, thank god I was very into veggies and fruits and other healthy things when I was raising my kids. They were started on them from the very start, and they eat them all, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower and brussel sprouts are all some of their favorites. I can leave candy out and it not ever get touched, but fruits and veggies fly faster than hell outta here with them. I didn't know at the time I was doing good, but boy I sure do now. lol

Yea, I had my wake up call about 2 years ago. Started having to pee about every 15-30 min. After 2 weeks went to the dr. and found out I had become type 2 diabetic. Hindsight 20/20. Been working every since to eat right and knock some weight off.

THIS is what I am scared of, my Mom's mom had 12 kids and at least 8 of them that I know of have Diabetes, so I have to really watch this, which is part of why I watch what I eat. Not as much as I should, but at least on some level. I feel for you on this one, I have watched my family struggle with this one all my life and it's no fun at all. I feel for you.

baddog, thanks babe, I'll pass this along to him. He is passed out on my couch right now, they musta gave him some hella drugs because he's out like a light. lol

OH GOD, me too. when the nurse came in to take out his IV this morning, I damn near knocked her down trying to get out of there so I didn't have to see it. I couldn't even look down at his hand for shit because of that damn IV. GOD I am horrified of those damn things. If I ever got it where I had to have that needle, I think I'd be right next to you in the "Fuck it" line. There's no way in hell.

Nice to see you again Tam, sorry to hear about your stress and worries of the past years.

Once younger people realize that eating meals at home is not only more affordable, but heathier and much more life-enriching they may pick up some better habits.

I learned from my grandparents who used to pick vedgies out of their garden every day pretty much and eat fresh food free. With a few key ingredients you could whip up a healthy meal for 4 for under 10$. My mom was a young single mom and we grew up eating dinner together every day. I now do the same for my husband, although we dont have children, I love to cook and it saves money and makes life so much better. Even if money is no object the residual advantages you'll never know until you try.

We actually timed this....it takes longer to drive through fast food than it does to prepare a healthy meal.

Tam, I'm glad they found the problem and I wish both of you the best...

I had my wake up call a year ago..too late for my gallbladder, which was removed this past December...but, I'm on a very healthy nutrition plan now and never felt better.

The good news is the body will try to regenerate that which it can....

Im really sorry to hear this but im glad he is doing better.

My father had a heart attack about 12 years ago and they told him it was his diet.He was a total meat and potatoes guy.He had to really make a lifestyle change with his diet. Both my parents have pretty much been a vegetarians since then. Not strict but close enough.Unfortunately last year he had a stroke but that was due to stress.

I on the other hand am looking at my 19th year with being vegetarian.I made a choice a long time ago that i was going to make a conscious effort to monitor what goes in my body. It's not for everyone but i love it.Your diet matters a lot and its all about moderation.

So did I, I used to love to go raid my grandparents garden, and I'd eat those damn things raw, it was my favorite thing to eat when I was a kid. I still love veggies and one of these damn days I am going to make the time for a garden myself. There's nothing better than growing it yourself and knowing what all is in that shit. lol

Raven, I didn't know that, damn sorry girl, but glad to see you are fine and rotten as usual. *ducking*

bastardsquad, so sorry to hear about your dad, that's what we were so fraid of here, and history of heart issues in his family sure didn't help.

My husband has all but gone into vegetarian mode, he eats very precious little red meat and pork, mainly chicken and fish and that's about it. He's finally eating on the rest of our level here and it makes ME feel better that he eats better now. I have had him only 23 years and I am not done with his ass yet. lol

Pornwolf, boy don't I know it. I am not so much richer, but am damn well older...... LOL

they say we make money and waste away our health when we're young, and then spend money to gain back our health when we're older. Very true. Especially these days.

They put so many chemicals in the chickens to produce chickens the size of small pigs and pigs to make pigs the size of cows and so on. It's just all crazy mad anymore.

Your wife should be fine too, best of luck to you and to her. They say they will feel so much better and if this is true, then it is worth the hell he is going thru tonight.

Vitamin C supplementation and regular alcohol consumption are linked to reduced rates of gallbladder disease among postmenopausal women. Among drinkers, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) supplement use was associated with a 50% decrease in the prevalence of clinical gallbladder disease but there was no similar benefit from vitamin C in nondrinkers.

So why the effect? Experts have long known that moderate alcohol consumption seems to have some protective effect against gallbladder disease. And previous research has revealed that vitamin C plays a key role in the metabolism of dietary cholesterol.
