This is true! I live on Lake Travis and every so often during the summer at dusk you will see a few flying around. But no one has ever been "attacked" by one (they are harmless) and unless you are specifically looking for them, you never really see any and you forget they are even around.

The house we bought is 2 minutes from Lake Travis, right by 4 points (I think that is what it is called).
For those of you in or around Austin, you will be hearing more from me when we get there. We are leaving Cali friday to Austin just for a few days. We have a lot of toys and since they charge a fortune to ship cars and boats and wave runners, we are gonna make a couple trips before we actually move at the end of the month and drive our stuff out there and fly back. This trip, I should hit Austin Sunday night or Monday and will be there until wednesday afternoon.
