try www.qbem.com, domains starting at $6 (biz/us) and $10 are com/net/org.. plus many more TLDs available as well.

I've heard that GoDaddy isn't a good registrar from more than one person but they never gave a reason... anybody feel like spilling the beans?

Do not know. But I think www.web.com is better for me.
www.web.com has free email (not email forwarding) and 10 MB web space.

GoDaddy is bad for porn domains because they take them away without reason.

There are alot of threads on GFY about it. Best to stay away from them.
