Business vs. ICQ etiquette?? + (PICS)

You should always identify yourself and state the reason you are contacting someone realtively early in a conversation when it comes to business. This in my mind is common courtesy to my customers, prospects and agents.

This allows the other party to know who they are talking to, what they can expect to be asked about and how much time they have to handle the matter now or make an appointment to talk later.

Professional courtesy and manners are what you need to be sucessful in any business out there. You never know where the people that you talk to today will be tommorrow in the landscape of your career.

If you act professional, people will be inclined to do business with you, you'll get referrals inwards and build a network of contacts that can prove to be invaluable as time goes on. Remember, you do get paid for being successful.

The beef with niko was that the person had identified themselves already and he asked again to see urls when he had already been given them. Is English Niko's first language? If it is, I guess he knew he was wrong on this one although it sounds like it isn't. He is correct however in wanting to know who the person is who wants the pass for the sites. Put it down to language barrier and be done with! Let's be happy

I know what you mean. I don't work as an account manager, but I get ICQ messages from people I don't know asking questions about traffic etc. at least once or twice a week. When I was working with cj and tgp sites it was usually something like: "Hi, I'm starting a tgp. Could you start a trade with me and force a few thousand hits. I'm going to buy a lot of traffic soon and I will send back more than you send me". I wonder if they actually get anyone to send them a few k hits before getting any back...

I think he was just trying to explain that you have the anti-spam function activated on ICQ, which means that if people (that are not in your contact list) sent you an URL you don't receive the message.

The ICQ messages that I hate are:

"When my check will be sent???????????"

They don't even mention their name, their affiliate ID or payout period.

so this whole thread boils down to this:

"if i don't know you, you need to introduce yourself, but i have anti-spam on, so if you introduce yourself, i still don't know you"?

My Story:

I signed up for your program and contacted you after I got a SPAM EMAIL from you guys when you opened. I looked for some content to make some ads for my sites and was treated excellent by Punker Barbie (your affiliate manager). I did NOT ask for a password. In fact, I resorted to going to the site itself and got some images off of it to make an ad to promote your site. Said thanks to Barbie and I was on my way because I had a lot to do that day.

Hours later, Nik starts messaging me DEMANDING to know who I am. I said he was listed as support for the company and that the issue had been taken care of... and I kept working on other stuff...

But then he keeps harassing me, demanding to know who I am, what sites I run, and what I wanted! WTF? I kept trying to tell him I was busy and that I didnt need anything from him but he kept on harassing me about it. Obviously, I could have just told him who I was, but he was being so rude to me I didn't really WANT to at that point! He eventually insulted me, calling me shady and dodgy and basically treated me as if I had somehow wronged him or was trying to scam him or something.

So, at that point I told him exactly who I was... told him that he was acting like a complete ass, and took down the ads that I had made and posted on my sites. Barbie to the rescue apologized FOR HIM (since he didn't apologize to me on his own) and I made the mistake of putting the ads back up.

Then yesterday my girlfriend (working on her own sites) ICQs Niko and asks him if they have any schoolgirl sets (DID NOT ASK FOR A PASSWORD) and he said yeah, and she asked if they used CCBill (a newbie but still valid question) and soon after answering that, Niko asks her if there is a POINT to the conversation and starts to be a dick...

And yes... she even told him what sites she ran... TWICE and yet, he STILL demanded a third time to know who she was and what sites she runs. At no point did she ask for a password, only asked simple questions and even told him who she was and he were still a complete asshole to her.

Pull your head out of your ass... You're the one who doesn't know how to do business. There are half a dozen more stories just from people I know that are very similar to this one. It may not be completely noble of myself to post this on a public board, but it seems you have a history and most likely a future of this behaviour...

OK jay so your point is what?????? That your girlfriend is lacking in social skills the same as you?

While you are acting like the voice of honesty on GFY why don't you post the log from yesterdays conversation with your g/f??? Or the one from your convo with me? Because the story you are spinning of me "chasing" you down and harrassing you is just a bit far fetched for most to swallow.

Checking your stats I am thinking that while we appreciate any and all traffic and joins that we get.........................I don't think you and I will loose any sleep if you pull your support of Bimini sites. The dozen joins you have sent in the last 3 months will be missed, but the 70% we were paying you as an apology for the misunderstanding will not be missed by us.

A good question for you would be......................why go through all this? Why have her approach me the same way you did with the same attitude? And if I was rude to her than why come to the boards? Why not be a man and come to me and tell me you are an affiliate and are pissed that I was rude to a friend of yours? My phone number is also listed on the contact page and you could have called and told me exactly how you feel.
Seems that would be the adult and prffesional way to handle it. But I guess the direct, honest, and up front approach just isn't your style.

Sorry for all the drama everyone. I simply posted the question of am I expecting too much or being unreasonable in my expectations of ICQ behavior. I never posted any names, or went into any detail of who was right or wrong in any of this. But I guess some people just love to hide on the keyboard and stir up shit!

The way you are handling this when confronted with it shows how 'good' you are with dealing with people, especially your affiliates. The only one lacking in social skills here is YOU. You're completely freaking out, insulting me, and others in this thread... and being an asshole like you always are. Its no wonder your old program "Tempe Cash" shut down after you and your former partner couldn't get along. You are an extremely difficult person to work with at times.

I did NOT ask my girlfriend to approach you. Why the hell would I EVER send ANYONE to you when I can send them to a program that respects their affiliates? I barely promoted your site myself!! I would much rather send my traffic to a company I respect.

Oh, and why didn't I contact you?? Well, lets see here... I sent SEVERAL messages yesterday to your ICQ immediately after your incident with her. No response. You must have ignored them because they didn't include my full name and my sites...

I know what happened to me... and have now been contacted by others and heard more stories of people who have had negative experiences with you. It honestly doesn't matter to me what people think because people are going to believe what they want to believe. I'm not in the habit of keeping logs of ICQ conversations from 3 months ago... especially conversations with people like you.

YOU harassed me to find out who I was when the situation was already handled by your affiliate manager (and I must say, it must be one hell of an organized show over there at Bimini Bucks). YOU are the one who started this thread expecting everyone to give you a hug and support you. I replied to your PUBLIC POST with a response to your complete bullshit of a story that you know anything at all about dealing with people over the net or ICQ.

You are simply too stupid to see when you're wrong... and will continue to believe you're the innocent one when you are the source of your own problems. Even in your response to my story, you do nothing but insult myself and others, and try and provoke the whole thing instead of simply aplogizing... Traffic or not... you are by far the biggest whiner and complainer in the business. You were never happy with anything three years ago and I can see you are still impossible to please. Jeff, you have some of the best PR skills, and from what I remember, you were nothing but nice to me. The only reason I view you and your company negatively is because of your negative dealings with people and companies who I know. That's the only reason I was ever rude to you in my actions or words towards you, which I'm sure you've acted the same way at times.


My dealings with you were strictly business related... Bimini on the other hand, successfully handled his original rudeness to me to the point that I had forgotten about it, and moved on... until the behaviour repeated itself to my girlfriend, and as it turns out, has been repeated to other people who have contacted me. That's personal, uncalled for, and seemingly, a pattern of behaviour that keeps repeating itself and he has the nerve to claim he's not to blame in the slightest. THAT is the problem.

I didn't get an apology from Bimini then, and neither has anyone else this has happened to since.

As Jeff said, "Youre not a bad guy, just very hard to make happy." I don't think I'm as much "hard to make happy" as I am explosive when people cross me or people I care about. It doesn't happen often.

I just think its absolutely ridiculous how some people have been treated by Niko when he claims to know etiquite. Others may not share this point of view.

Well thanks... Well I only wish you had taken the time to find out both side of the story. You didnt do that at all. I was by far not the only person at fault in that event. You formulated your opinion based on what your friends said. I dont fault you for that, but if you were really looking at things just based on business, you would have seen thought alot of it and not been so harsh with your accessment of me and my company.

What I do respect is people that stand by there principles. You are one of them and so is Niko. We dont always have to agree, but you have to respect people that arnt wishy washy. This is a business and when it is treated as such its very profitable... when it becomes a popularity contest no one makes any money. There is way to much of that going on right now. We are here to make money, just like you. We have to protect every images and every click that comes into our sites now more then ever. Sometimes that means being over protective of what we have and who we do business with. Thats harder to understand when you are using someone else BW and images to make your living. I understand that, but please try to understand why some might watch everything, very close.

Thank You! I was the same guy two years ago Jay I dont think I matured that much form 39-41 haha. Just two years more of webmastering experience under my belt I guess.

Nik is a great guy with a program he is working his ass of to build. I know how hard it is. Ive had to do it twice in the last three years. Understanding his/our persective will go a long ways into developing long term business relationships with programs our size.
